Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Metallurgist to lead process optimization and development at their Richards Bay mining facility, overseeing metallurgical operations, troubleshooting challenges, and driving innovation to maximize metal recovery and product quality.

The ideal candidate holds a Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Metallurgy or Chemical Engineering with 10+ years in mineral processing and extractive metallurgy, plus experience with process control and analytics in an industrial setting.

Qualifications

Master's degree or Ph.D. in Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
Minimum of 10 years of experience in mineral processing and extractive metallurgy, preferably in base metals or precious metals.
In-depth knowledge of various metallurgical unit processes and their optimization.

Responsibilities

Optimize metallurgical processes (e.g., flotation, leaching, refining) to enhance recovery rates and product purity.
Conduct laboratory and pilot plant test work to evaluate new process technologies and improvements.
Troubleshoot operational issues, identify root causes, and implement effective solutions.
Develop and maintain process control strategies and monitoring systems.
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior metallurgists and technicians.
Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and safety standards in all metallurgical operations.
