Job summary

North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, Faculty of Engineering, School of Chemical and Minerals Engineering, is seeking a Senior Technician on a fixed-term temporary appointment. The role involves repairs, maintenance, design and manufacturing of research equipment, with supervision of junior workshop staff.

Minimum qualifications include a National Diploma (NQF6) with N3 in Mechanical Engineering and a relevant trade certificate; 3+ years’ experience in boilermaking or fit‑and‑turner.

Qualifications

• National Diploma with N3 in mechanical engineering and a trade certificate.
• Proven experience in boilermaking, fitting and turning (3+ years).
• Supervisory experience is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate practical skills in fitting/turning, machining, welding and boiler making.
• Repair electronic components and maintain analytical laboratory equipment.
• Supervise junior workshop staff and provide on‑the‑job training.
• Support teaching, research and facility upkeep in the workshop.
