Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer for our Nelspruit office to lead major infrastructure and industrial projects. You will oversee project teams, ensure timelines, budgets, safety, and quality, and drive technical excellence across mechanical systems design.

The role requires a strong background in large-scale projects, proven leadership, and excellent stakeholder management. PMP is highly desirable; work authorization in South Africa is required.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering is required.
• 8+ years in mechanical engineering with at least 4 years in a PM/project lead role.
• Experience managing large infrastructure or industrial projects (e.g., power plants, water treatment facilities).
• Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, equipment, and installation practices for infrastructure.
• Proficiency with PM software (MS Project, Primavera) and engineering design tools.
• Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
• Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, timelines, and resources; understanding contract administration and procurement.
• PMP or equivalent certification is highly desirable.
• Must be legally authorized to work in South Africa.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the complete project lifecycle for mechanical engineering aspects of infrastructure and industrial projects.
• Develop detailed project plans, schedules, and budgets in collaboration with stakeholders.
• Coordinate and oversee design engineers, technicians, and site personnel.
• Ensure all designs comply with applicable standards, codes, and client specs.
• Manage project risks and implement mitigation strategies.
• Liaise with clients, contractors, and regulators for smooth execution and communication.
• Oversee procurement, installation, and commissioning of mechanical equipment and systems.
• Monitor progress, prepare status reports, and manage change orders.
• Ensure health, safety, and environmental compliance throughout project execution.
