Job summary

National Asphalt seeks a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer for our Bon Accord, Pretoria asphalt plant. The role focuses on plant reliability, maintenance excellence, operational efficiency, and continuous improvement.

The candidate will lead mechanical assets, drive maintenance programs, and support strategic engineering projects across the business, while ensuring safety and cost-effectiveness of operations.

Qualifications

• BSc or BEng in Mechanical Engineering.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Strong understanding of mechanical plant maintenance and systems.
• Experience with maintenance management systems.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert technical guidance on mechanical engineering matters.
• Oversee design, installation, commissioning, modification and maintenance of mechanical systems.
• Investigate equipment failures and implement corrective actions.
• Review drawings, specs, calculations and equipment designs.
• Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability and efficiency.
• Develop and manage preventive and predictive maintenance programmes.
• Lead engineering projects from concept to implementation.
• Coordinate contractors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
