Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer in George, Western Cape for design and optimization of renewable energy mechanical systems. You will lead CAD modeling, FEA studies, and integration with electrical/software teams to deliver robust energy solutions.

The role requires a strong grasp of thermodynamics, materials, and manufacturing processes, plus hands-on prototyping and documentation. Renewable energy experience including energy storage or wind components is a plus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Minimum of 5 years in mechanical design and engineering, with renewables exposure.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD and PDM systems.
• Strong understanding of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and structural mechanics.
• Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software.
• Knowledge of materials science and manufacturing processes for energy systems.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical and critical thinking skills.
• Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
• Passion for renewable energy and sustainable technologies.
• Experience with energy storage systems or wind turbine components is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical components and systems for renewable energy applications, ensuring efficiency, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
• Utilize CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor) to create detailed 3D models, assemblies, and manufacturing drawings.
• Perform engineering analysis, including stress, thermal, and vibration analysis (FEA), to validate designs.
• Collaborate with electrical engineers, software developers, and project managers to integrate mechanical systems into overall solutions.
• Develop and maintain technical documentation, including design specifications, BOMs, and test procedures.
• Oversee prototyping, testing, and validation of mechanical designs, analyzing results and implementing improvements.
• Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical issues that arise during development or operation of energy systems.
• Research and evaluate new technologies and materials to enhance product performance and sustainability.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant industry standards and safety regulations.
