Placements24 is seeking a Lead Mechanical Engineer to spearhead renewable energy design and optimization. This fully remote role allows contribution from anywhere in South Africa, with preference for Bloemfontein, Free State.

The candidate will lead mechanical design, mentor juniors, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver innovative energy solutions. A master's in mechanical engineering and 8+ years in design are required.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering with strong emphasis on energy systems.
• 8+ years of progressive experience in mechanical design and engineering, with renewables or heavy industry exposure.
• Expert proficiency in CAD software and simulation tools (SolidWorks, Inventor, ANSYS, COMSOL).
• Strong understanding of structural mechanics, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and materials science.

Responsibilities

• Lead the mechanical design and engineering of components and systems for renewable energy applications, ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
• Utilize CAD software (SolidWorks, Inventor) for detailed design, assembly modeling, and manufacturing documentation.
• Perform FEA, thermal, and fatigue analyses using ANSYS or COMSOL; validate designs through testing.
• Collaborate with remote teams of electrical, software, and project management professionals to ensure seamless integration.
• Develop and implement robust testing strategies for prototypes and production units; drive design improvements.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior mechanical engineers; promote best practices.
