Job summary

Placements24 is recruiting a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer for a leading heavy mining equipment manufacturer in Soweto, Gauteng. You will design and validate mechanical systems, perform stress analyses, and develop robust 3D models and drawings for underground and surface machinery.

The role requires a 7+ year background in heavy equipment design, expertise in SolidWorks/Inventor and FEA, and a focus on safety, reliability and performance in harsh environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
• 7+ years of experience designing heavy industrial equipment, preferably mining or construction.
• Expertise with CAD tools (SolidWorks, Inventor) and FEA analysis.
• Strong knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, structural mechanics and materials.
• Ability to design for extreme environments and demanding conditions.

Responsibilities

• Design and engineer complex mechanical systems and components for large-scale mining equipment.
• Perform detailed stress analysis, fatigue life calculations, and simulations to validate designs.
• Create 3D models, 2D drawings, and BOMs using CAD software.
• Collaborate with manufacturing, testing and field service teams for robustness and manufacturability.
• Investigate design-related failures and optimize durability, safety and cost.
