Job summary

Jobgether in South Africa is seeking a Senior Java Engineer (Payments) to lead design and delivery of secure, scalable payment platforms for global clients in a fully remote role.

You will own end-to-end technical delivery, drive architecture, and mentor engineers while collaborating with product, solution architects, and DevOps across distributed teams. Strong Java, Spring, Kafka, and cloud experience are essential.

Qualifications

• Seven years of professional Java development experience.
• Hands-on payments/fintech domain knowledge preferred.
• Deep Java/Spring expertise for REST and event-driven services.
• Kafka-based asynchronous processing and exactly-once semantics.
• Cloud, containers, and modern CI/CD tooling experience.
• Security, regulatory compliance, and incident management mindset.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop scalable Java applications for payments platforms.
• Lead architecture decisions, data models, and integration patterns.
• Build payment integrations with external systems and providers.
• Ensure reliability, security, and regulatory compliance.
• Develop event-driven workflows with Kafka and maintain idempotency.
• Mentor engineers and drive engineering best practices.
• Own production incidents and contribute to observability and CI/CD improvements.
