Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Manage and prosecute patent and trademark applications worldwide.
• Advise on IP litigation matters with external counsel as needed.

About the Role

Our client is looking for a highly accomplished Senior Intellectual Property Lawyer to join their remote-first legal team. This position involves managing and protecting the company's valuable intellectual property portfolio, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets. You will be responsible for IP strategy development, enforcement, licensing, and litigation. This is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced IP professional to work independently and collaboratively with global teams, driving innovation and safeguarding the company's intellectual assets from anywhere within South Africa , with a focus on remote work.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement strategies for the protection, management, and enforcement of intellectual property rights (patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets).
• Conduct IP due diligence for new products, technologies, and business ventures.
• Draft and negotiate IP-related agreements, including licensing, co-development, and confidentiality agreements.
• Manage and prosecute patent and trademark applications globally.
• Advise on IP litigation matters, working closely with external counsel when necessary.
• Provide guidance on IP compliance and freedom-to-operate issues.

Requirements

• Admitted Attorney with a minimum of 7 years of specialized experience in Intellectual Property Law .
• Proven experience in IP portfolio management, strategy, and enforcement.
• Strong understanding of patent prosecution, trademark law, and copyright law.
• Excellent analytical, drafting, and negotiation skills.
• Ability to work autonomously and manage projects effectively in a remote setting.
