SA-admitted attorney with 7+ years in IP law will coordinate international prosecutions, draft licensing agreements, advise product teams, and drive IP risk management while working fully remotely.

About the Role

Our client, a forward-thinking technology firm, is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Remote Intellectual Property (IP) Counsel to bolster their legal team. This position is designed for an IP law expert who can manage and protect the company's valuable intellectual property assets on a global scale. Working entirely Remote , you will be responsible for overseeing patent prosecution, trademark registration, IP licensing, and enforcement strategies. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of IP law, a strategic mindset, and the ability to translate complex technical concepts into robust legal protections. Key Responsibilities

• Develop and execute the company's global IP strategy, including patent, trademark, and copyright matters.
• Manage the company's patent portfolio, including drafting and prosecuting patent applications.
• Oversee trademark clearance searches, applications, and portfolio management.
• Draft, review, and negotiate IP-related agreements, such as licensing, joint development, and collaboration agreements.
• Advise business teams on IP implications of new technologies, products, and market strategies.
• Conduct IP due diligence for mergers, acquisitions, and other strategic transactions.
• Manage and resolve IP disputes, including infringement claims and opposition proceedings.
• Educate internal teams on IP protection and best practices.
• Work closely with R&D and product development teams to identify and protect new innovations.
• Monitor the IP landscape for competitive intelligence and potential risks.

Requirements

• Admitted Attorney of the High Court of South Africa or equivalent, with a strong focus on Intellectual Property law.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in IP law, with significant experience in patent prosecution and/or trademark management.
• In-depth knowledge of patent law, trademark law, copyright law, and trade secret law.
• Experience drafting and negotiating IP licenses and other related agreements.
• Ability to understand and articulate complex technical subject matter.
• Excellent analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills.
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
• Proven ability to work autonomously and manage a global IP portfolio effectively in a remote work environment.
• Admission to practice before relevant patent/IP offices is highly advantageous.
