Placements24 is seeking a Senior Legal Advisor specializing in IP and Technology Law. This fully remote position allows you to operate from anywhere within South Africa, while supporting our hub near Centurion, Gauteng.

• Admitted SA attorney with at least 6 years of IP/Technology Law experience.
• Strong expertise in patent, trademark, copyright, and licensing.
• Solid knowledge of data privacy laws (POPIA and GDPR).
• Experience drafting and negotiating complex technology/IP agreements.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement IP strategies including protection of patents, trademarks, and copyrights.
• Manage lifecycle of IP assets from invention disclosure to registration and enforcement.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement comprehensive IP strategies, including patent, trademark, and copyright protection.
• Manage the lifecycle of the company's IP assets, from invention disclosure to registration and enforcement.
• Draft, review, and negotiate technology-related agreements, such as software licenses, SaaS agreements, development agreements, and IP licenses.
• Advise on data privacy and protection matters, including POPIA compliance.
• Conduct IP due diligence for potential acquisitions, partnerships, and investments.
• Manage and resolve IP disputes, infringements, and claims.
• Stay abreast of emerging legal and technological trends impacting the IP landscape.

Requirements

• Admitted Attorney of the High Court of South Africa with a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in IP and Technology Law.
• Demonstrated expertise in patent, trademark, copyright law, and licensing.
• Strong understanding of data privacy laws (e.g., POPIA, GDPR).
• Experience drafting and negotiating complex technology and IP-related agreements.
• Excellent analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities.
• Proven ability to manage a diverse IP portfolio and work autonomously in a remote setting.
• Experience working with inventors and technical teams is highly advantageous.
• Membership in IP law associations is a plus.
