Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an experienced HVAC Mechanical Engineer in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga. You will design, specify, and manage HVAC systems for diverse commercial and industrial buildings, working with cross-functional teams to ensure compliant, energy-efficient solutions.

The role supports a hybrid work model and requires strong CAD skills, thermodynamics knowledge, and project coordination experience. You will contribute to high-quality designs while collaborating with clients and architects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum of 5 years of HVAC design experience.
• Proficiency in HVAC design software (Revit MEP, AutoCAD MEP, HAP).
• Strong understanding of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics and heat transfer.
• Knowledge of building codes and energy efficiency standards.
• Experience with project coordination and site supervision.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work in a hybrid environment balancing office and remote tasks.
• Based in or able to commute to Nelspruit, Mpumalanga.

Responsibilities

• Design and specify HVAC systems for commercial, industrial, and institutional buildings.
• Prepare detailed calculations for heating/cooling loads, duct sizing, and pipe sizing.
• Produce technical drawings, schematics, and specifications using CAD software.
• Select HVAC equipment such as chillers, boilers, AHUs, and pumps.
• Conduct site visits to assess conditions and monitor installation progress.
• Ensure designs comply with building codes and energy efficiency regulations.
• Collaborate with architects, electrical engineers, and project managers.
• Provide technical support during construction and assist with commissioning.
• Contribute to sustainable and energy-efficient HVAC solutions.
