Placements24 in Pietermaritzburg is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to lead stability assessments and safety for mining operations. You will manage investigations, modeling, and fieldwork while guiding a team of geotechnical professionals.

The role requires a strong background in soil/rock mechanics, numerical modeling, and adherence to SA mining standards. A Master’s degree is advantageous and Pr.Eng./ECSA is preferred; relocation assistance may be provided.

Qualifications

• Bachelor-level degree in a relevant field (Mining/Geotechnical/Civil).
• Master's degree is advantageous for advanced roles.
• Registration as Professional Engineer (Pr.Eng.) with ECSA preferred.

Responsibilities

• Conduct geotechnical investigations for mining projects.
• Develop monitoring programs for ground conditions and hazards.
• Provide design guidance on slope stability, excavation and support systems.
• Use FLAC and Rocscience for ground modeling and analysis.
• Prepare detailed technical reports and recommendations for stakeholders.
• Collaborate with mine planning, production and enviro teams.
• Mentor junior geotechnical engineers and oversee fieldwork.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations and standards.
• Participate in risk assessments and mitigation planning.
