Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer for our Randburg, Gauteng office. You will lead geotechnical investigations and analyses for mining infrastructure, oversee project teams, and liaise with mining clients to ensure safety and efficiency of operations.

Selector requirements include a Master’s or PhD in Geotechnical Engineering and Pr.Eng registration, with 10+ years in geotechnical work, especially mining. Expect opportunities for growth and technical advancement.

Qualifications

• Master's degree or PhD in Geotechnical Engineering or closely related field.
• Professional Engineer (Pr.Eng) registration with ECSA is essential.
• A minimum of 10 years of specialized geotechnical engineering experience, with mining focus.
• Proven experience leading complex geotechnical projects and managing project teams.
• Expertise in numerical modeling software for geotechnical analysis (PLAXIS, FLAC, GeoStudio).

Responsibilities

• Lead geotechnical investigations and analyses tailored for mining infrastructure (tailings dams, waste dumps, mine supports).
• Perform advanced stability analyses for slopes, foundations, and underground excavations.
• Develop design recommendations for foundations, ground improvement and dewatering systems.
• Prepare geotechnical reports, feasibility studies and risk assessments for mining projects.
• Mentor junior geotechnical engineers and geologists; provide technical guidance.
