Placements24 in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal, seeks a Senior Geotechnical Engineer with a mining focus to lead geotechnical projects, slope stability assessments, tailings dam design, and infrastructure foundations. You will mentor junior engineers, liaise with mine teams and environmental specialists, and drive safe, compliant design delivery in challenging remote site environments.

The role requires a Master's degree, Pr Eng registration, 10+ years in geotechnical mining, and a track record

Qualifications

Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering or related field.
10+ years of geotechnical engineering experience with mining sector.
Pr Eng registration with ECSA is essential.
Expertise in slope stability, numerical modeling (FLAC, Plaxis), and seismic analysis.

Responsibilities

Conduct geotechnical investigations and analyses for mining projects.
Design and manage open-pit slope and underground excavations stability.
Oversee tailings storage facilities design and construction.
Provide geotechnical input for mine infrastructure (roads, buildings, processing plants).
Perform seismic hazard analyses and ground response studies for mining areas.
Prepare geotechnical reports, drawings, and specifications.
Mentor junior geotechnical engineers and technicians.
Lead proposals and business development for mining-related projects.
