Placements24 seeks a Principal Geotechnical Engineer for our mining client in Klerksdorp, North West, SA. You will lead ground stability programs across surface and underground operations, oversee slope and tailings dam design, and mentor a team of geotechnical professionals.

You will provide expert input to mine planning, monitor ground conditions with instrumentation, and ensure compliance with geotechnical standards while driving safe, sustainable, and cost-effective solutions.

Qualifications

• Master's or Ph.D. in Geotechnical, Civil or Mining Engineering with a geotechnical focus.
• 10–12 years of progressive geotechnical experience in the mining sector.
• Professional Engineer registration (e.g., Pr.Eng) is essential.
• Willingness to travel to mine sites as needed.

Responsibilities

• Lead geotechnical risk assessment and management for mining operations.
• Develop and monitor geotechnical investigation programs and site characterization.
• Design and oversee stable slopes, underground openings, and tailings storage facilities.
• Monitor ground conditions using instrumentation and interpret data.
• Conduct seismic hazard assessments and mitigation strategies.
• Provide input to mine planning and design, and review geotechnical reports.
