Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Principal Geotechnical Engineer to lead operations in Mahikeng, North West. You will drive complex geotechnical programs for mining and infrastructure, mentor a high-caliber team, and shape the firm’s capabilities in the region.

You will bring 12+ years of geotechnical leadership, masterfully using advanced modeling and geotechnical software to deliver safe, innovative solutions. International project exposure and client leadership are emphasized.

Qualifications

Master's or PhD in Geotechnical Engineering or a closely related field.
Professional registration with ECSA as a Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) is mandatory.
Minimum of 12 years of progressive geotechnical experience with leadership roles, especially in mining.
Demonstrated expertise in advanced numerical modeling (e.g., finite element analysis) and geotechnical software.
Track record of managing large-scale projects and multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

Lead and manage large, complex geotechnical projects for mining operations, civil infrastructure, and energy projects.
Provide senior technical direction on site characterization, slope stability, foundation design, and ground improvement.
Develop and implement innovative and cost-effective geotechnical solutions for challenging ground conditions.
Oversee detailed site investigations, including drilling, in-situ testing, and laboratory analysis.
Mentor and manage a team of geotechnical engineers and technicians; foster growth and development.
