Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to deliver expert services for mining and energy infrastructure projects around Kimberley. You will assess ground conditions, design stable foundations, and mitigate geological risks for large-scale developments.

Lead geotechnical investigations, analyze soil and rock data, prepare reports and design drawings, and provide field supervision to ensure safety and quality throughout construction.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with Geotechnical specialization.
• 7+ years of geotechnical engineering experience in mining or energy infrastructure.
• Proficiency with geotechnical software PLAXIS, GEO5, and Slide.
• Strong report writing and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Plan and manage geotechnical investigations including site reconnaissance, borehole drilling and in-situ testing.
• Analyze soil and rock data to determine properties and identify hazards such as slope instability and settlement.
• Design foundations, retaining walls, earthworks and other geotechnical structures for mining and energy facilities.
• Prepare detailed geotechnical reports, recommendations and design drawings.
• Provide expert technical support during construction, including site supervision and quality control.
• Liaise with clients, regulatory bodies and other disciplines to ensure project requirements are met.

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly skilled Senior Geotechnical Engineer to provide expert services for mining and energy infrastructure projects in and around Kimberley . This role is critical for assessing ground conditions, designing stable foundations, and mitigating geological risks associated with large-scale developments. You will lead geotechnical investigations, analyze data, and develop practical engineering solutions to ensure the safety and longevity of structures such as power plants, dams, and mining facilities. Working collaboratively with project teams, you will play a key role in the successful planning and execution of vital infrastructure projects in the region, ensuring sound engineering practices are applied.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and manage comprehensive geotechnical investigations , including site reconnaissance, borehole drilling, and in-situ testing.
• Analyze soil and rock mechanics data to determine engineering properties and identify potential hazards (e.g., slope instability, settlement).
• Design foundations, retaining walls, earthworks, and other geotechnical structures for mining and energy facilities .
• Prepare detailed geotechnical reports, recommendations, and design drawings.
• Provide expert technical support during the construction phase, including site supervision and quality control.
• Liaise with clients, regulatory bodies, and other engineering disciplines to ensure project requirements are met.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Geotechnical Engineering.
• Master's degree preferred.
• Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in geotechnical engineering , with demonstrated experience in mining or energy infrastructure.
• Strong knowledge of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, foundation engineering, and slope stability analysis.
• Proficiency with geotechnical software (e.g., PLAXIS, GEO5, Slide).
• Experience in managing field investigations and laboratory testing programs.
• Excellent report writing, communication, and problem-solving skills.
