About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly skilled Geotechnical Engineer to join their established team in Klerksdorp , focusing on critical aspects of their underground and surface mining operations. This role is vital for ensuring the stability and safety of mine workings, slopes, and related infrastructure. You will conduct detailed geotechnical investigations, provide expert advice on ground support, slope stability, and seismic hazards, and contribute to the design of safe and efficient mining methods. This position demands a strong understanding of rock mechanics and soil mechanics applied within the challenging conditions of the North West mining province .

Key Responsibilities

Plan and execute field investigations, including drilling, sampling, and in-situ testing of rock and soil masses.
Perform detailed geotechnical analyses for underground excavations, open pits, and tailings storage facilities.
Develop and recommend appropriate ground support systems and stabilization measures.
Conduct seismic hazard assessments and provide input into mine design and operational planning.
Monitor geotechnical conditions and advise on potential risks and mitigation strategies.
Prepare comprehensive geotechnical reports and present findings to project teams and management.

Requirements

Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Mining Engineering, or a related field.
Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in geotechnical engineering for mining .
Proficiency in geotechnical software for slope stability and numerical modeling (e.g., Rocscience suite, Plaxis).
Strong knowledge of rock mechanics, soil mechanics, and engineering geology principles.
Experience with field testing equipment and interpretation of laboratory test results.
Excellent analytical skills and the ability to communicate complex technical information effectively in Klerksdorp .
