Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Lead Geologist in George, Western Cape, to lead seismic interpretation and regional geological analyses for high-impact exploration projects. The role demands leadership, mentoring, and cross-disciplinary collaboration with engineers and geophysicists.

You will guide interpretation strategies, develop models, and ensure data quality while staying abreast of new software and methods. A PhD or MSc with 10+ years in oil and gas geoscience is expected.

Qualifications

• MSc or PhD in Geology or a related geoscience discipline.
• Minimum 10 years of oil and gas exploration geology experience with focus on structural geology and seismic interpretation.
• Proven expertise with industry-standard seismic interpretation software (Petrel, Kingdom Suite).
• Demonstrated ability to analyze complex structural settings and fault systems.
• Strong knowledge of sequence stratigraphy and depositional environments.

Responsibilities

• Lead the geological interpretation of 2D and 3D seismic data with emphasis on structure and stratigraphy.
• Develop and refine geological models for exploration and appraisal prospects.
• Integrate well logs, core data, and regional studies.
• Identify and assess drilling targets with geological risk assessments.
• Collaborate with reservoir engineers and geophysicists to build integrated subsurface models.
• Supervise and mentor junior geologists and interpretative staff.
• Prepare detailed geological reports, presentations, and recommendations for exploration committees.
• Contribute to defining and executing regional exploration strategies.
• Ensure data quality and adherence to geological standards and best practices.
• Stay updated on advances in geological software and interpretation techniques.
