Job summary

Placements24 in George, Western Cape seeks a Lead Geologist to head geological operations in oil & gas exploration and development projects. The role requires extensive subsurface interpretation and data integration, with leadership of a geoscience team.

You will guide exploration strategies, assess geological risk, and integrate models with reservoir data to optimize hydrocarbon recovery. Strong communication with international partners and management is essential.

Qualifications

• Master's or PhD in Geology, Geophysics, or related Earth Science.
• 10+ years upstream Oil & Gas experience with significant leadership.
• Expertise in seismic interpretation and geological modeling software.
• Strong understanding of sequence stratigraphy, sedimentology, and structural geology.
• Experience with C++ programming or scripting for geological applications is a plus.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and team leadership skills.
• Experience working in the Western Cape region or similar geological settings.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of geologists and geoscientists in interpretation of geological data.
• Oversee acquisition, processing, and interpretation of seismic, well log, and core data.
• Develop and refine subsurface geological models for exploration and development assets.
• Conduct detailed basin analysis and prospect evaluation for new opportunities.
• Assess and quantify geological uncertainty and risk.
• Integrate geological data with reservoir engineering and production data for field development planning.
• Collaborate with international partners and regulatory bodies on geological matters.
• Prepare comprehensive geological reports, presentations, and recommendations for investment decisions.
