Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Lead Geotechnical Engineer in George, Western Cape, to lead complex site investigations and foundation design for major developments. You will guide a multidisciplinary team of geotechnical professionals, ensuring robust soil/rock mechanics analysis and compliant reporting.

You will oversee project delivery, mentor junior staff, and apply cutting-edge geotechnical methods in line with South African standards, with opportunities for regional travel.

Qualifications

• Master's or PhD in Geotechnical Engineering or closely related field.
• Pro fessional Engineer (Pr. Eng.) with ECSA registration is essential.
• 10+ years of geotechnical engineering experience with leadership.
• Strong knowledge of soil/rock mechanics, foundation engineering, seismic design and numerical modeling.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert technical leadership in geotechnical engineering, site investigation planning and interpretation.
• Oversee design of foundations, retaining structures, slope stability, and ground improvement.
• Manage geotechnical project teams, ensuring schedules, budgets and quality standards.
• Conduct risk assessments related to ground conditions and advise on mitigations.
• Prepare and review geotechnical reports, proposals and design documentation.
• Collaborate with structural engineers, architects and construction teams.
• Mentor junior geotechnical engineers and geologists.
• Stay updated on SA standards and geotechnical best practices for George projects.
