Placements24 seeks a Senior Geologist to lead geological exploration, resource estimation, and mine planning in Pietermaritzburg. The role blends on-site operations with remote data analysis and reporting, contributing to safety, sustainability, and technological advancement in mining.

The ideal candidate has 7–10 years in geological exploration, underground mining experience, and proficiency with Leapfrog or Vulcan.

Qualifications

• 7–10 years of progressive geological exploration and mining experience.
• Experience with underground mining operations is essential.
• Proficiency in geological modeling software such as Leapfrog or Vulcan.
• Experience in resource estimation using JORC or SAMREC codes.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to mine sites.
• Professional registration with SACNASP is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Conduct detailed geological mapping and core logging to delineate mineralized zones.
• Perform resource and reserve estimations using industry-standard software and methodologies.
• Develop geological models to guide mine planning and optimize resource extraction.
• Collaborate with mining engineers, geophysicists, and other staff for safe operations.
• Interpret geophysical and geochemical data to enhance geological understanding.
• Prepare geological reports and presentations for senior management.
• Mentor and supervise junior geologists.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations in Pietermaritzburg.
