Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Geologist to join a leading diamond exploration team in Kimberley, Northern Cape. You will lead fieldwork, interpret multi‑data targets, and drive geological models in a high‑impact setting.

Qualified candidates will have a strong background in structural geology, geochemistry, and diamond exploration, with 8–10+ years in the field and willingness to travel regionally and internationally.

Qualifications

• Master's degree or PhD in Economic Geology or related field.
• 8–10 years of progressive mineral exploration experience, with emphasis on diamond exploration and kimberlite geology.
• Expertise in structural geology, petrography, and geochemistry.
• Proficiency in Leapfrog Geo, ArcGIS, and data management systems.
• Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills with meticulous attention to detail.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to present complex technical information clearly.
• Proven ability to lead and mentor teams; willing to travel extensively.
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel within the Northern Cape and internationally.

Responsibilities

• Lead and execute geological fieldwork, including mapping, sampling, and core logging, focusing on diamondiferous kimberlite occurrences.
• Interpret geological, geophysical, and geochemical data to generate exploration models and drill targets.
• Conduct detailed structural analysis of rock formations to understand emplacement mechanisms and ore distribution.
• Manage and mentor junior geological staff, fostering collaboration and technical proficiency.
• Prepare geological reports, presentations, and summaries for senior management and stakeholders.
• Collaborate with geophysicists and geochemists to integrate diverse datasets for target definition.
• Oversee acquisition and quality control of exploration data, ensuring accuracy and industry standards.
• Contribute to development and implementation of innovative exploration strategies.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical information clearly.
• Proven ability to lead and motivate teams in challenging field conditions.
• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel extensively within the Northern Cape region and occasionally internationally.
