About the Role

Our client, a significant explorer in the Oil & Gas landscape, is seeking a highly experienced Senior Geologist specializing in Basin Analysis and Prospectivity to join their team in Soweto, Gauteng . This critical role involves evaluating geological data to assess the hydrocarbon potential of prospective basins. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of regional geology, advanced interpretation skills, and the ability to integrate diverse datasets to identify and de-risk exploration opportunities. Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive basin analysis, including tectonic history, sedimentology, and petroleum systems evaluation.
• Interpret geological and geophysical data (seismic, well logs, core data) to identify and characterize exploration plays.
• Evaluate and rank exploration prospects based on risk and potential reward.
• Integrate data from multiple sources to build robust subsurface geological models.
• Contribute to the development of exploration strategies and multi-year exploration plans.
• Collaborate with geophysicists, reservoir engineers, and exploration managers to define drill targets.
• Prepare detailed geological reports, prospect evaluations, and presentations for management.
• Mentor junior geologists and contribute to the team's technical expertise.
• Stay abreast of new geological concepts, technologies, and methodologies relevant to exploration.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Geology, Petroleum Geology, or a related Earth Science field.
• A minimum of 8 years of experience in exploration geology, with a strong focus on basin analysis and prospect generation within the Oil & Gas industry.
• Demonstrated expertise in integrating and interpreting various geological and geophysical datasets.
• Proficiency with geological interpretation and modeling software (e.g., Petrel, Kingdom).
• Strong knowledge of sedimentary basin formation, structural geology, and petroleum system elements.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
• Exceptional communication and presentation skills, able to convey complex geological concepts effectively.
• Experience in frontier basin exploration is highly desirable.
• Must be legally authorized to work in South Africa.
