About the Role Our client, a key player in the Oil & Gas sector, is seeking a highly experienced Senior Geologist with expertise in Basin Analysis to join their dedicated team in Polokwane, Limpopo, ZA . This challenging role focuses on understanding the geological framework, depositional history, and petroleum systems of various basins to identify and de-risk exploration opportunities. The successful candidate will utilize advanced geological concepts, integrate diverse datasets, and contribute significantly to the company's exploration strategy. This position requires a deep understanding of regional geology and a proven track record in prospect generation and evaluation. You will be instrumental in shaping the company's understanding of prospective regions and driving future exploration campaigns. Your insights will directly influence strategic investment decisions and project success.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct detailed geological studies of sedimentary basins, including structural, stratigraphic, and sedimentological analysis.
• Integrate and interpret geological, geophysical, and geochemical data to characterize petroleum systems.
• Map play fairways and identify and rank exploration prospects.
• Develop conceptual geological models and utilize geological software for analysis and visualization.
• Collaborate closely with geophysicists, reservoir engineers, and exploration managers.
• Prepare high-quality technical reports, presentations, and prospect evaluations.
• Provide geological input for drilling operations and well planning.
• Mentor junior geologists and contribute to team knowledge sharing.
• Stay current with advancements in geological concepts and technologies.
• Contribute to regional and basin-scale risk assessment studies.

Requirements

• MSc or PhD in Geology or a related Earth Science discipline.
• Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in basin analysis and exploration geology within the oil and gas industry.
• Proven expertise in regional tectonics, sequence stratigraphy, and petroleum system analysis.
• Proficiency with geological modeling and interpretation software (e.g., Petrel, GOCAD, Kingdom).
• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience presenting technical findings to diverse audiences.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
