Placements24 is seeking a Senior Geologist to join our client’s team in Sandton, Gauteng. The role focuses on interpreting seismic and geological data, building 3D models, and guiding exploration strategy.

You will collaborate with engineers and management to identify high-potential hydrocarbon prospects and drive prospect generation. The ideal candidate has a PhD/Master’s in Geology or Geophysics, 7+ years in upstream exploration, and strong proficiency with Petrel and Kingdom Suite.

Qualifications

About the Role

Our client, a leading independent exploration company, is looking for a highly skilled and experienced Senior Geologist to join their team. This exciting opportunity is based in the bustling commercial hub of Sandton, Gauteng. The Senior Geologist will be responsible for interpreting geological data, identifying and evaluating potential hydrocarbon prospects, and contributing significantly to exploration and development strategies. This role requires a deep understanding of subsurface geology, advanced interpretation techniques, and the ability to integrate diverse datasets. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team of geoscientists, engineers, and management to ensure the success of exploration ventures. We are seeking a proactive and analytical individual with a strong track record in prospect generation and evaluation within the Oil & Gas industry. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in shaping our client's future exploration portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

• Interpret seismic, well log, core, and other geological data to identify and characterize hydrocarbon prospects.

Requirements

• Master's or Ph.D. degree in Geology, Geophysics, or a related Earth Science field.
• A minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in geological exploration within the upstream Oil & Gas sector.
• Proven expertise in seismic interpretation, well correlation, and geological modeling software (e.g., Petrel, Kingdom Suite).
• Strong understanding of structural geology, sedimentology, and stratigraphy.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
• Effective communication and presentation abilities, capable of conveying complex geological concepts clearly.
• Experience in the Gauteng region or similar geological settings is advantageous.
• Must be eligible to work in South Africa .
