Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an experienced Lead Bioinformatician to drive data analysis initiatives in Polokwane. You will develop and implement advanced bioinformatics pipelines to analyze genomic and transcriptomic data, extracting insights to inform R&D strategies in Limpopo.

You will mentor junior bioinformaticians, collaborate with researchers, stay current with new tools, and present results to technical and non-technical audiences.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. or MSc in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field.
• Minimum of 6 years of professional experience in bioinformatics analysis.
• Strong proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, or Perl.
• Extensive experience with command-line tools and high-performance computing environments.

Responsibilities

• Lead development, optimization, and maintenance of bioinformatics pipelines for analyzing high-throughput sequencing data.
• Perform complex data analysis, including variant calling, differential gene expression analysis, and pathway enrichment.
• Collaborate with experimental biologists to interpret results and design future experiments.
• Mentor junior bioinformaticians and provide technical guidance on analytical methods.
• Stay current with the latest advancements in bioinformatics tools, algorithms, and technologies.
• Present findings and methodologies clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
