About the Role

Our client, a distinguished international freight forwarding and logistics company, is seeking an experienced Senior Freight Forwarder to enhance their team in East London . This hybrid role combines remote strategic coordination and client communication with essential on-site operations management and stakeholder engagement. You will be responsible for managing the end-to-end process of international shipments, ensuring compliance, efficiency, and customer satisfaction. This position requires a deep understanding of global trade regulations, customs procedures, and various modes of transport (air, sea, land). If you are a seasoned professional in freight forwarding with a strong client focus and a passion for facilitating international trade, this is an exceptional opportunity.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and coordinate the movement of international shipments via air, sea, and land transport.
• Liaise with clients, carriers, customs brokers, and other international partners to ensure smooth transit.
• Prepare and process all necessary shipping documentation, including bills of lading, customs declarations, and export/import permits.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant international trade regulations, tariffs, and customs laws.
• Negotiate freight rates and terms with carriers to optimize costs and service levels.
• Track shipments and provide timely updates to clients on their cargo status.
• Resolve any issues or discrepancies that arise during the shipping process, such as customs delays or damaged goods.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with key clients, understanding their specific shipping needs.
• Stay informed about changes in international trade policies, shipping routes, and market trends.
• Assist in training and mentoring junior freight forwarding staff.

Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in freight forwarding or international logistics, with a proven track record in managing complex shipments.
• Comprehensive knowledge of international shipping regulations, customs procedures, and documentation requirements.
• Experience with various modes of transportation (airfreight, ocean freight, road freight).
• Proficiency in using freight forwarding software and systems.
• Strong negotiation and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with clients and global partners.
• Ability to work effectively in a hybrid environment, balancing remote client management with on-site operational coordination.
• Detail-oriented approach and strong organizational skills.
• A relevant qualification in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or International Trade is highly desirable.
• Understanding of incoterms and their application in international trade.
