Placements24 is seeking a Senior Financial Controller to lead financial operations from a remote-first setup. You will supervise all accounting functions, drive IFRS-based reporting, and strengthen internal controls while shaping strategic financial decisions for a SA-wide operation with a base in Klerksdorp, North West.

The role requires a Master’s in Accounting or Finance plus CA(SA)/CIMA, and at least 10 years in accounting/finance, including 5+ years in a controller or senior management

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Accounting or Finance is required
• CA(SA) or CIMA qualification mandatory
• Minimum 10 years in accounting/finance with 5+ years in controller/senior finance
• Extensive IFRS knowledge and SA tax legislation
• ERP experience with SAP or Oracle; advanced Excel skills
• SOX experience is a plus; eligible to work in SA

Responsibilities

• Direct and oversee all accounting operations including AP/AR, payroll, and GL
• Lead timely financial reporting (monthly, quarterly, annual) per IFRS
• Develop and maintain internal controls to safeguard assets
• Manage budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning
• Ensure VAT, income tax, and other statutory filings are compliant
• Coordinate with external auditors and manage annual audit
• Analyze financial data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities
• Drive finance process improvements and leverage technology
• Mentor and develop the finance team to high performance

Key Responsibilities

• Direct and oversee all accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger management.
• Lead the preparation and timely delivery of all financial reporting, including monthly, quarterly, and annual statements, adhering strictly to IFRS.
• Develop, implement, and maintain robust internal control systems to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance.
• Manage the budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes, providing strategic financial guidance.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable tax regulations, including VAT, income tax, and other statutory filings.
• Act as the primary point of contact for external auditors, managing the annual audit process efficiently.
• Analyze financial data, identifying trends, risks, and opportunities, and providing recommendations to senior management.
• Drive process improvements within the finance function, leveraging technology to enhance efficiency and accuracy.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Accounting or Finance; a professional qualification such as CA(SA) or CIMA is mandatory.
• Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in accounting and finance, with at least 5 years in a controller or senior financial management role.
• Extensive knowledge of IFRS standards and South African tax legislation.
• Proven experience implementing and managing internal controls (SOX experience is a plus).
• Exceptional proficiency in accounting software (ERP systems like SAP or Oracle are essential) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Strong leadership, strategic thinking, and decision-making capabilities.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, suitable for a remote leadership role.
• Demonstrated ability to manage complex financial operations remotely.
