Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a skilled Field Service Engineer to service heavy machinery in Vereeniging, Gauteng. The role requires hands-on mechanical and electrical diagnostics, on-site installation, maintenance, and repairs to maximise uptime for clients.

You will travel regionally, read schematics, train customer personnel, and ensure accurate service reports while upholding safety standards. A trade qualification or engineering degree and 7+ years of relevant experience are expected.

Qualifications

• Trade qualification or engineering diploma/degree is required.
• 7+ years of experience as a Field Service Engineer or similar role with heavy industrial machinery.
• Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude including hydraulics and pneumatics.
• Proficiency with diagnostic equipment and tools for heavy machinery.
• Ability to read and interpret complex technical manuals and schematics.
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
• Valid driver’s license with clean record; willingness to travel.
• Ability to work independently in a demanding field environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform on-site installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and repair of heavy machinery.
• Conduct preventative maintenance and inspections to ensure equipment reliability.
• Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues using diagnostic tools.
• Interpret manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
• Provide technical guidance and training to customer personnel.
• Respond promptly to service calls and resolve issues efficiently.
• Maintain accurate service reports, parts used, and time spent.
• Manage spare parts inventory and ordering.
• Collaborate with engineering and sales to provide feedback.
