Job summary

Herotel Telecoms (Pty) Ltd in Cradock is seeking a Senior Field Technician to lead advanced fibre and wireless installations, perform site surveys, and oversee repairs across our networks. This hands-on role requires mentoring junior technicians and ensuring every job meets safety, quality, and customer service standards.

You will work in the field, manage equipment stock, document activities with accuracy, and coordinate with Team Leaders to ensure timely delivery.

Qualifications

• Must have a Grade 12 qualification and relevant field experience.
• Minimum 2 years Fibre Optic splicing experience.
• Minimum 2 years RF/Wireless experience.
• Advanced networking knowledge is advantageous.
• Experience with fibre troubleshooting tools (OTDR) and fusion splicing equipment.
• Proficient in fibre termination and fusion splicing techniques.
• Strong hand and power tool skills.
• Technical training in Electronics, IT, Networking, VoIP or related fields is advantageous.
• Valid driver’s licence with a clean record.
• Strong analytical and mentoring abilities.

Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee advanced fibre and wireless installations, repairs and site surveys.
• Perform preventative maintenance and conduct inspections with RF and Fibre teams.
• Execute advanced fibre troubleshooting including splicing, testing and dome management.
• Perform wireless troubleshooting including signal testing and CPE optimisation.
• Resolve advanced network issues such as IP conflicts, firewall and routing problems.
• Install and configure advanced VoIP systems.
• Maintain project, safety and SHER/OHS documentation.
• Ensure equipment is maintained and stock is available for scheduled work.
• Conduct detailed site surveys including signal confirmation and fibre termination validation.
• Document findings with reporting and photographic evidence.
• Troubleshoot on-site callouts efficiently while communicating cost implications.
• Mentor junior technicians and assistants.
