Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Facilities Hygiene Officer for Cape Town to lead hygiene, sanitation, and compliance initiatives across client sites in diverse commercial and public spaces.

You will oversee inspections, staff training, procurement, and regulatory liaison while driving continuous improvement in hygiene programs and health & safety standards.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in a senior hygiene, sanitation, or environmental health role.
• Knowledge of hygiene standards, pest control, waste management, and infection control principles.
• Familiarity with South African health and safety legislation applicable to commercial spaces.
• Strong leadership and team management skills.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills with staff and clients.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with hygiene management software is a plus.
• A relevant Environmental Health/Public Health qualification is highly desirable.
• Must be based in or willing to relocate to Cape Town.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and monitor comprehensive hygiene and sanitation programs for multiple facilities in Cape Town.
• Conduct regular inspections and audits to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and company standards.
• Provide training and guidance to cleaning staff on sanitation techniques, chemical usage, and safety protocols.
• Manage procurement and inventory control of cleaning supplies, equipment, and PPE.
• Investigate and address sanitation concerns or non-compliance issues, implementing corrective actions swiftly.
• Collaborate with facility managers and clients to understand needs and expectations regarding hygiene.
• Maintain accurate records of hygiene-related activities, including training logs, inspection reports, and incident reports.
• Stay abreast of industry trends, new technologies, and evolving regulatory requirements in sanitation and public health.
• Promote a culture of health and safety awareness among site personnel.
• Liaise with external regulatory bodies as required.
