DP World in South Africa is seeking a Customs & Compliance Specialist to ensure accurate data entry, classification of commodities, and adherence to regulatory requirements. You will manage permits, certificates, and customs stops while coordinating with suppliers, clients and SARS to maintain accredited status.

You’ll support efficient import/export operations, verify SOB/ETA, currency, and COO details, and resolve queries promptly, contributing to service excellence for DP World’s clients.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in a senior role within a customs affairs environment.
• Matric and relevant freight forwarding/customs qualifications are preferred.
• SDS or Higher certificate in Freight Forwarding and Customs Compliance required/advantageous.

Responsabilités

• Enter and process documents: complete 20 entries per day / 200 lines per day.
• Verify documents for accuracy prior to entry and ensure correct classification of commodities.
• Comply with customs legislation; obtain permits, rebates and certificates.
• Manage customs stops/detentions and escalate until finalised.
• Verify quantities, SOB and ETA dates, currency and COO per packing list and invoice.
• Resolve queries with internal and external stakeholders and escalate issues.

Job Function

To ensure and ambassador customs compliance and maintain accredited status when performing responsibilities and interacting with suppliers, clients and SARS, and to ensure that the correct procedures are followed to achieve operating efficiencies within the department in support to the import and export departments and the company’s obligation to offering a service to its clients.

Key Performance Areas

• Complete either 20 entries per day / 200 lines per day
• Ensure error rate is below %
• Verify that all documents are present prior to beginning entry
• Correctly classify commodities shown on supplier's invoice using either the parts library, or Tariff book.
• Comply with Customs (Legislative) requirements by ensuring all permits, rebates, certificates, etc are available, on record and timeously obtained
• Attend to customs stops / detentions and follow up on all relevant stop notes until these are finalised and closed out - ensure that escalation is applied to cases until finalised
• Verify No of pieces of Invoice, Packing list and Transport document
• Verify SOB and ETA dates
• Ensure correct currency is utilised
• Ensure correct COO is used as per packing list / invoice
• Ensure all queries are resolved timeously with internal and external stakeholders.
• All issues must be escalated to superiors as soon as it is identified.
• Customer commitments are met and exceeded
• Productivity at an acceptable level

Qualifications Required

• Matric
