Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Energy Systems Analyst for a fully remote role based in South Africa. You will model and optimize energy systems, work across engineering, data science, and project management teams, and contribute to renewable energy solutions.

Requirements include a quantitative engineering or physics degree and 5+ years in energy systems. Proficiency in PVSyst/HOMER/SAM and Python/MATLAB/R is expected. Excellent communication and remote-work skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a quantitative field (Engineering, Physics, etc.).
• 5+ years of experience in energy systems analysis, power systems, or renewable projects.
• Proficiency with energy-modelling tools: PVSyst/HOMER/SAM.
• Strong coding skills in Python/MATLAB/R for data analysis and simulation.
• Solid understanding of grid operations, power markets, and regulatory contexts.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; able to present data clearly.
• Ability to work independently and in a remote team.
• Experience with energy storage or smart grids is a plus.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain sophisticated energy system models using industry-standard software and custom scripts.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, or Energy related), Physics, or a related quantitative field.
• A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in energy systems analysis, power systems engineering, or renewable energy project development.
• Proficiency in energy modeling software such as PVSyst, HOMER, SAM, or similar.
• Strong programming skills in Python, MATLAB, or R for data analysis and simulation.
• Solid understanding of electrical grid operations, power market dynamics, and regulatory environments.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking abilities.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and concisely.
• Proven ability to work independently and as part of a remote team.
• Experience with large-scale energy storage systems and smart grid technologies is a plus.
