Placements24 is seeking a Senior Energy Systems Analyst for our client in Johannesburg, Gauteng. The role focuses on deep data analysis, building energy system models, and delivering strategic insights to optimize renewable integration and grid modernization.

You will work with engineers, project managers, and policy advisors in a hybrid environment, mentoring junior staff and ensuring data integrity while staying abreast of regulatory changes in the SA energy sector.

Qualifications

• Master's degree or PhD in engineering, physics, applied mathematics, or related field.
• 7+ years of experience in energy systems analysis or modeling.
• Strong knowledge of SA energy markets and grid dynamics.
• Proficiency with energy modeling software and data analysis tools.

Responsibilities

• Analyze energy consumption and generation data across various scales.

Key Responsibilities

Requirements

• Master's degree or Ph.D. in Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics, or a related quantitative field.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in energy systems analysis, modeling, or a related domain.
• Proven expertise in energy modeling software (e.g., PLEXOS, EnergyPlus, HOMER) and statistical analysis tools (e.g., Python, R, MATLAB).
• Strong understanding of power generation, transmission, distribution, and energy markets, with a focus on the South African context.
• Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and critical thinking skills.
• Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information to diverse audiences.
• Demonstrated experience in project management and leading analytical initiatives.
• Familiarity with renewable energy technologies and energy efficiency strategies.
• Experience with data visualization tools is a plus.
