Job summary

HID Global in Durban, South Africa is seeking a Staff Firmware Engineer to join a collaborative engineering team. This role focuses on developing real-time embedded software for physical access control systems, drivers, and secure firmware update mechanisms.

You will work with C/C++ across Linux and Windows environments, port software to new hardware, and mentor junior engineers while contributing to crypto and secure communication features.

Qualifications

• 5-15 years professional experience in C or C++ programming, preferably with Embedded Linux and microcontroller RTOS development.
• Experience in distributed systems and network-based communication protocols.
• Familiarity with the Microsoft Visual Studio and Eclipse development environments.
• Ability to work on complex tasks with minimal technical guidance.
• Excellent problem-solving, design, development, and debugging skills.
• Good communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop and enhance features for real-time embedded system.
• Develop communications protocol drivers for use in our embedded system and third-party products.
• Develop and enhance network communication mechanisms.
• Port existing software to new embedded hardware and software platforms.
• Design and implement software development and test tools.
• Lead reviews, drive architectural decisions, and mentor junior/mid-level engineers.
• Implement and maintain cryptographic functions, secure communications, and secure firmware update mechanisms.
