Job summary

HID Global is seeking a Staff Embedded Software Engineer in Durban to develop real-time embedded software for physical access control systems. You will design and implement features, drivers, and secure communications across Linux and RTOS environments, while mentoring teammates and leading architectural decisions.

Ideal candidates have extensive C/C++ experience, familiarity with Linux embedded development, and hands-on work with TCP/IP, SSL/TLS, and related technologies.

Qualifications

• 5-15 years professional experience in C or C++ programming, preferably with Embedded Linux and microcontroller RTOS development.
• Experience in distributed systems and network-based communication protocols.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Visual Studio and Eclipse development environments.
• Ability to work on complex tasks with minimal technical guidance.
• Excellent problem-solving, design, development, and debugging skills.
• Good communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop and enhance features for real-time embedded system.
• Develop communications protocol drivers for use in our embedded system and third-party products.
• Develop and enhance network communication mechanisms.
• Port existing software to new embedded hardware and software platforms.
• Design and implement software development and test tools.
• Lead reviews, drive architectural decisions, and mentor junior/mid-level engineers.
• Implement and maintain cryptographic functions, secure communications, and secure firmware update mechanisms.
