Job summary

HID Global is seeking a Firmware Engineer in Durban to develop and maintain embedded firmware for real‑time and embedded systems used in security and access control hardware.

You will collaborate with hardware, software, QA and manufacturing teams to deliver robust firmware across microcontroller and embedded Linux platforms, while following established processes and ensuring secure software practices.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of professional embedded firmware development.
• Proficiency in C for embedded systems.
• Familiarity with microcontrollers, debugging tools and IDEs.
• Understanding of software development lifecycle and Git.
• Knowledge of UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, USB, Ethernet, TCP/IP or similar.
• Experience with VS, VS Code or Eclipse.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain embedded firmware for real‑time and embedded systems.
• Implement features, enhancements and fixes per product requirements.
• Design, develop, test and verify firmware solutions.
• Assist with porting software to new hardware platforms.
• Support communication protocols and device interfaces.
• Debug issues across development, manufacturing, and field deployments.
