Placements24 is seeking a Senior Automotive Software Engineer with a focus on Embedded Systems for our Rustenburg R&D facility.

You will design, develop, and integrate software for automotive ECUs, emphasizing C/C++ code quality, RTOS optimization, and cross‑functional collaboration with hardware and validation teams.

The role requires 7+ years in embedded automotive software, proficiency in CAN/LIN/Ethernet, AUTOSAR familiarity, and strong problem‑solving skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 7 years of professional experience in embedded software development, with a significant focus on the automotive industry.
• Expertise in C/C++ programming for embedded systems.
• Strong understanding of real‑time operating systems (RTOS) concepts and practical application.
• Hands‑on experience with automotive communication protocols (CAN, LIN, Automotive Ethernet).
• Familiarity with automotive software development processes and standards (e.g., AUTOSAR).
• Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git) and build tools.
• Knowledge of debugging tools and techniques for embedded systems.
• Excellent problem‑solving and analytical skills.
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
• Experience with model‑based design and simulation tools is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain embedded software for automotive applications, including microcontrollers and ECUs.
• Write clean, efficient, and well-documented C/C++ code adhering to strict coding standards.
• Implement and optimize real-time operating systems (RTOS) for performance and reliability.
• Develop and integrate software components with hardware, ensuring seamless functionality.
• Utilize automotive communication protocols such as CAN, LIN, Ethernet, and FlexRay.
• Perform code reviews, static analysis, and unit testing to ensure software quality and robustness.
• Debug complex software and system-level issues, identifying root causes and implementing effective solutions.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including hardware engineers, system architects, and validation engineers.
• Contribute to the definition of software architecture and design patterns for automotive systems.
• Stay abreast of advancements in embedded systems, automotive software technologies, and relevant industry standards (e.g., AUTOSAR, ISO 26262).
