Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer for their Vereeniging, Gauteng operations. You will design, develop, and implement large-scale solar and wind projects, ensuring electrical system integrity from grid connection to plant operation.

The role emphasizes advanced power systems knowledge, renewable energy expertise, and leadership to mentor junior engineers and drive safe, cost-effective project delivery on-site in Gauteng.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• 7+ years of experience in electrical engineering, with at least 4 years focused on renewable energy projects.
• Proven experience with solar PV and/or wind energy systems design and integration.
• Strong knowledge of power electronics, transformers, switchgear, and protection systems.
• Familiarity with grid codes and interconnection standards.
• Proficiency in electrical design and simulation software (e.g., PVSyst, ETAP).
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
• Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng.) registration with ECSA is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead the electrical design and engineering of utility-scale renewable energy projects, including solar PV and wind farms.
• Develop detailed electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and equipment specifications.
• Perform power system studies, including load flow, short circuit, and protection coordination analysis.
• Oversee the procurement, installation, and commissioning of electrical equipment and systems.
• Ensure compliance with grid interconnection requirements, industry standards, and safety regulations.
• Collaborate with project managers, site engineers, and stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.
• Conduct site assessments and feasibility studies for new renewable energy developments.
• Provide technical support and troubleshooting during project execution and operation phases.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering practices.
