Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join a fully remote mining operations team. You will provide expert electrical engineering support, oversee HV systems, and drive strategic oversight across sites from anywhere in South Africa.

You will lead design and maintenance of electrical infrastructure, mentor junior engineers, and ensure compliance with Mine Health and Safety Act and relevant standards. A rewarding remote role with strong growth opportunities is offered.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• 8+ years of experience in electrical engineering, ideally in mining/heavy industry.
• Experience with high-voltage systems, power distribution, motor control and electrical safety in mining contexts.
• Strong understanding of mining equipment electrical systems and fault diagnosis.
• Proficiency in electrical design and analysis software.
• Knowledge of mining regulations and safety standards (Mine Health and Safety Act).
• Ability to lead technical initiatives and provide remote support.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for remote collaboration.
• Registered Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) with ECSA is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert guidance for electrical systems in underground and surface mining operations.
• Develop strategies for maintenance, upgrades and optimization of electrical infrastructure.
• Conduct risk assessments and mitigation for electrical hazards in mining environments.
• Oversee design and specification of electrical equipment and control systems for mining applications.
• Collaborate with site engineering teams to address operational challenges and implement solutions.
• Ensure compliance with mining safety regulations, electrical codes and environmental standards.
• Manage electrical engineering projects related to mine development or modernization.
• Analyze electrical performance data to identify efficiency improvements and cost reductions.
• Mentor junior engineers and technical staff remotely.
• Stay updated on emerging technologies and best practices in mining electrical engineering.
