Job summary

MSP Staffing (PTY) LTD seeks a Senior Electrical Engineer to lead design and integration of advanced Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). You will work at the intersection of electrical engineering, power electronics and renewables to deliver next-generation energy storage solutions.

Responsibilities include mentoring junior staff, ensuring compliance with SANS and grid codes, and guiding prototypes to commissioning in grid-tied and off-grid applications. SAIEE membership is mandatory.

Qualifications

• BSc, BEng or BTech in Electrical or Electronic Engineering.
• Active SAIEE membership – mandatory.
• 5–7 years’ relevant electrical engineering experience.
• Strong experience in solar PV, BESS, microgrids or related renewable energy systems.
• ECSA registration as a Pr Eng or Pr Tech Eng would be highly advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Lead electrical and electromechanical design for BESS solutions.
• Integrate BMS with inverter technologies across grid-tied, off-grid and peak-shaving apps.
• Ensure designs comply with SANS and municipal grid codes.
• Lead engineering activities from concept to commissioning.
• Mentor junior engineering staff and promote safety and quality.

Our client is seeking a highly skilled Senior Electrical Engineer to take a leading role in the design, integration and continuous improvement of advanced Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). This position offers an opportunity to work at the intersection of electrical engineering, power electronics and renewable energy, contributing to next-generation energy storage solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead electrical and electromechanical design for commercial, industrial and utility-scale BESS solutions.
• Integrate Battery Management Systems (BMS) with leading inverter technologies across grid-tied, off-grid and peak-shaving applications.
• Ensure electrical designs, installations and 3D models comply with SANS requirements and applicable municipal grid codes.
• Lead engineering activities from initial concept and prototyping through spatial planning, testing and final commissioning.
• Work closely with R&D teams to develop and improve next-generation lithium-ion energy storage products.
• Provide technical input into system integration, electrical architecture and electromechanical packaging.
• Identify and resolve complex engineering and integration challenges.
• Support continuous improvement of products, processes and engineering standards.
• Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineering staff.
• Promote high standards of technical quality, safety and engineering excellence.

Requirements

• BSc, BEng or BTech in Electrical or Electronic Engineering.
• Active professional membership with the South African Institute of Electrical Engineers (SAIEE) – mandatory.
• 5-7 years’ relevant electrical engineering experience.
• Strong experience in solar PV, BESS, microgrids or related renewable energy systems.
• Extensive proficiency in Autodesk Inventor, particularly for 3D modelling, electromechanical packaging and electrical routing.
• Strong practical knowledge of power electronics and DC/AC topologies.
• Sound understanding of LiFePO4 battery technologies.
• ECSA registration as a Pr Eng or Pr Tech Eng would be highly advantageous.
• Strong technical leadership, problem-solving and communication skills.
