Job summary

Greys Recruitment is seeking an experienced Application Engineer to design and implement Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) solutions in the renewable energy sector. The role involves technical design, project support from tender to commissioning, and collaboration with customers, suppliers, and internal teams.

The ideal candidate will have a National Diploma / BTech / BEng / BSc in Electrical Engineering and 3–5+ years in electrical engineering, renewable energy or energy storage.

Qualifications

• Requires Electrical Engineering background with BESS experience.
• Experience in system sizing, power electronics and energy storage.
• Familiarity with tenders/RFQs/RFPs and vendor coordination.

Responsibilities

• Design and integrate BESS solutions for utility-scale, standalone, microgrid and solar-hybrid applications.
• Develop large-scale, containerised/modular BESS systems (AC/DC coupled).
• Review RFQs, RFPs and customer requirements to inform proposals.
• Prepare detailed technical proposals and bid packages.
• Perform system sizing and battery capacity calculations.
• Review supplier documentation, drawings and specifications.
• Coordinate with stakeholders on sizing, simulations and proposals.
• Develop BESS designs and engineering/construction drawings.
• Provide technical input into project development and approvals.
• Support grid connection and engineering deliverables.
• Provide technical support through project lifecycle from development to commissioning.
• Troubleshoot BESS equipment issues and support commissioning activities.

Job description

An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Application Engineer to join a leading organisation operating within the renewable energy and energy storage sector.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the technical design, engineering and application of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) solutions, supporting projects from initial customer requirements and tender stage through to implementation, commissioning and technical support.

The role will work closely with customers, suppliers, sales teams and internal engineering stakeholders to develop technically sound and commercially viable energy storage solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and integrate BESS solutions for utility-scale, standalone, microgrid and solar-hybrid applications.
• Develop solutions for large-scale, containerised and modular BESS systems, including AC- and DC-coupled configurations.
• Review RFQs, RFPs, tender documentation and customer requirements.
• Prepare detailed technical proposals and bid packages.
• Perform system sizing and battery capacity calculations.
• Review supplier technical documentation, drawings, manuals and specifications.
• Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders on system sizing, simulations and technical proposals.
• Develop BESS designs and engineering/construction drawings.
• Provide technical input into project development and planning approvals.
• Support grid connection and engineering deliverables.
• Provide technical support throughout the project lifecycle, from development through to commissioning.
• Provide technical support during construction and commissioning activities.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues relating to BESS equipment and systems.
• Support inverter, battery and associated system commissioning activities.
• National Diploma / BTech / BEng / BSc in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• Minimum 3–5 years' experience in electrical engineering, renewable energy, power electronics or energy storage.
• Strong experience with Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
• Experience with system design, sizing and technical proposal development.
• Experience working with technical tenders/RFQs/RFPs.
• Strong understanding of electrical and control systems.
• Experience working with suppliers, customers and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Willingness and ability to travel when required.

Ideal Candidate Profile

We are looking for an Electrical Engineer with strong BESS / renewable energy experience who can operate across the technical, commercial and project environments.

Someone who understands the technology behind battery storage, inverters, power electronics and hybrid energy systems, but can also engage confidently with customers, suppliers and internal stakeholders.

BESS experience is a key requirement for this position.

Travel:

The successful candidate must be willing to travel domestically and internationally when required for customer meetings, site visits, industry events, commissioning and project support.
