Job summary

Prosperitas Personnel is seeking a BESS Engineer to join the renewable energy team in South Africa. You will design and engineer battery energy storage solutions for commercial and industrial solar projects, performing sizing, energy modelling, and system optimisation.

You will develop electrical diagrams, review supplier documents, and support project delivery from design through commissioning. Travel to project sites will be required.

Qualifications

• BEng/BSc/BTech in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
• Experience in BESS, solar PV, electrical power systems, or renewable energy.
• Strong understanding of battery storage technologies and BESS architecture.
• Experience with electrical system design, protection, and power distribution.
• Ability to interpret and produce electrical drawings and single-line diagrams.

Responsibilities

• Design and engineer BESS solutions for commercial and industrial solar projects.
• Perform battery storage sizing, energy modelling, and system optimisation.
• Develop electrical single-line diagrams, equipment specifications, and technical documentation.
• Assess customer load profiles and determine appropriate solar + storage configurations.
• Integrate BESS with solar PV, inverters, EMS, generators, and existing electrical infrastructure.
• Evaluate battery technologies, inverter/PCS systems, protection equipment, and energy management solutions.
• Support grid connection and compliance requirements.
• Review technical proposals, equipment datasheets, and supplier documentation.
• Provide technical input during procurement and equipment selection.
• Support project teams during installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and handover.
• Conduct technical site assessments and identify potential electrical and BESS integration challenges.
• Work closely with project managers, EPC teams, suppliers, contractors, and clients.
• Ensure designs comply with applicable electrical, safety, grid, and industry standards.
• Assist with technical investigations and performance optimisation of operational BESS systems.
• Stay current with developments in battery technology, energy markets, grid requirements, and commercial storage applications.

We are looking for a BESS Engineer to join their technical team and play a key role in the design, engineering, integration, and delivery of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects within the commercial and industrial solar market.

• Experience with electrical system design, protection, and power distribution.

• Ability to interpret and produce electrical drawings and single-line diagrams.

• Understanding of solar PV systems, inverters, EMS/SCADA, and grid integration.

• Experience working with commercial or industrial energy users is highly advantageous.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to work with technical data, load profiles, energy consumption data, and system performance information.

• Good understanding of relevant electrical and safety standards.

• Strong communication skills and the ability to engage with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Willingness to travel to project sites when required.

Package & Remuneration

R680 000 CTC to R800 000 CTC per annum based on experience and qualifications
