Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an Electrical Distribution Engineer to join our infrastructure team in Soweto. You will design, plan, operate and maintain the electrical distribution network to ensure reliable power supply for residential and commercial areas.

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems) with 6+ years of distribution or power systems experience, and proficiency in PSS/E, ETAP or CYME.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems).
• Minimum 6 years of experience in electrical distribution engineering or power systems.
• Proficiency with power system analysis software (PSS/E, ETAP, CYME).
• Familiarity with South African electricity supply regulations and safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Design and plan upgrades and extensions to the electrical distribution network, including substations and feeder lines.
• Perform load flow, short circuit, and protection coordination studies for the distribution system.
• Monitor network performance, identify potential issues, and implement solutions to maintain reliability.
• Respond to and manage electrical faults and outages, coordinating repair efforts efficiently.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant national and local electrical codes, standards, and regulations.
• Prepare technical reports, specifications, and project documentation related to distribution network infrastructure.
