AltGen South Africa seeks a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to lead electrical and mechanical design for solar PV and energy storage projects. You will manage engineering deliverables, ensure MV/LV design and protection coordination, and drive regulatory compliance across international projects.

The role requires 5+ years of relevant experience, strong analytical skills, English proficiency, and the ability to work independently within a collaborative global team.

Qualifications

• Electrical Engineering degree or equivalent; registered or working towards registration.
• 5+ years of experience in design and delivery of Solar PV and energy storage projects.
• Experience with international IEC standards is beneficial.
• Strong numerical and analytical skills with attention to detail.
• Able to issue high level reporting and documentation.

Responsibilities

• Electrical and Mechanical design and specification for PV and storage systems.
• Management of engineering deliverables and design verification.
• Low and medium voltage design and protection coordination.
• SCADA design and specification; earthing system design.
• Ensure compliance with ISO 9001, 14001, 45001 processes.
• Prepare tenders and proposals; respond to client requirements.
• Coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams across projects.
• Support international markets and project lifecycle from development through delivery.

We are recruiting a Senior Electrical Design Engineer for an international renewable energy company specialising in the development and delivery of solar PV and battery energy storage projects. Active across both emerging and established markets, with a strong presence across Africa, the business operates across the full project lifecycle, from development and financing through to construction and operations.

The company has a growing portfolio of solar and energy storage projects that are supporting the transition to cleaner, more reliable power across the regions in which it operates.

Your duties will include:

Development and Design:

• Electrical and Mechanical Design and specification
• Management of engineering deliverables
• Low and Medium Voltage design
• Regulatory Compliance
• SAT and FAT compliance
• Electrical Protection specification
• Tenders and Proposals
• Earthing System Design and Specification
• SCADA design and specification
• Adhering to company ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001 processes

Requirements

• Electrical Engineering Graduate
• Professionally Registered or working towards registration
• 5+ Years experience in the design and delivery of Solar PV and Energy storage projects
• Strong multi-skilled individual with attention to detail
• Superb numerical and analytical skills
• Fluent spoken and written English
• Capability to issue high level reporting
• Experience with international IEC standards is beneficial
• Experience with Autocad, PVSyst, DigSilent, Homer
• Medium voltage and protection coordination experience
• Ability to work independently and be a teamwork advocate
