Placements24 seeks a highly experienced Senior DevOps Engineer with Cloud Automation to join a distributed, 100% remote team across South Africa. You will design, implement, and maintain scalable cloud infrastructure, deployment pipelines, and IaC-based tooling, to accelerate development velocity and reliability.

The role requires deep expertise in cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP), CI/CD, Terraform/Ansible/CloudFormation, scripting in Python or Bash, and container tech (Docker, Kubernetes).

Qualifications

• Degree in CS/Engineering or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years in DevOps/SRE with cloud focus.
• Proven cloud platform expertise and tooling.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable cloud infra on AWS/Azure/GCP.
• Develop and manage CI/CD pipelines for automated deployments.
• Implement IaC using Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation.
• Automate operational tasks to boost efficiency.
• Ensure security, performance, and availability of cloud envs.

About the Role

Our client, a leader in innovative technology solutions, is seeking a highly experienced Senior DevOps Engineer with expertise in Cloud Automation to join their distributed team. This is a 100% remote position, allowing you the flexibility to work from anywhere within South Africa. You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining robust, scalable, and automated cloud infrastructure and deployment pipelines. Your role will be critical in enhancing development velocity, system reliability, and operational efficiency. We are looking for a proactive individual with a deep understanding of CI/CD, infrastructure as code, and cloud-native technologies to drive our client's DevOps practices forward.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable and reliable cloud infrastructure on platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Develop and manage CI/CD pipelines for automated building, testing, and deployment of applications.
• Implement and manage Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools like Terraform, Ansible, or CloudFormation.
• Automate operational tasks and processes to improve efficiency and reduce manual intervention.
• Ensure the security, performance, and availability of cloud environments.
• Implement and manage robust monitoring, logging, and alerting systems.
• Collaborate with development and operations teams to troubleshoot and resolve issues.
• Participate in architectural discussions and contribute to technology selection.
• Mentor junior DevOps engineers and promote best practices.
• Stay current with emerging DevOps tools, technologies, and methodologies.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of experience in DevOps, SRE, or a related role, with a strong focus on cloud environments.
• Proven experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and their services.
• Expertise in CI/CD tools and practices (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions).
• Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible).
• Strong scripting skills (e.g., Python, Bash).
• Experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Solid understanding of networking, security, and operating systems.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a remote, collaborative environment.
