Placements24 is hiring a Senior Data Scientist for a fully remote role serving the South African energy sector. You will lead ML model development for forecasting and optimization, while architecting scalable data pipelines and delivering insight-driven dashboards to stakeholders.

The ideal candidate has 7+ years in data science, strong Python/R skills, and extensive cloud/big data experience. You will mentor juniors, ensure ethical data use, and stay at the forefront of AI research,

Qualifications

• Master's or PhD in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field.
• 7+ years of experience as a Data Scientist, with energy sector exposure preferred.
• Expertise in Python or R and ML libraries (scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch).
• Strong SQL and NoSQL database experience.
• Proficient with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and big data tools (Spark, Hadoop).

Responsibilities

• Develop and deploy advanced machine learning models for energy forecasting, anomaly detection, and optimization.
• Analyze large and complex datasets from various energy sources to identify trends and patterns.
• Design and implement data mining strategies and build robust data pipelines.
• Collaborate with domain experts to translate business needs into data science solutions.
• Create compelling data visualizations and dashboards to communicate findings.
• Stay abreast of the latest research and advancements in data science and AI.
