Placements24 in Benoni, Gauteng, is seeking a Senior Cosmetic Product Developer to lead end-to-end development of skincare, makeup and haircare products. You will guide concept, formulation, stability testing and production liaison, working closely with R&D, marketing and manufacturing to deliver innovative, market-ready cosmetics.

The ideal candidate has a science degree and at least six years in cosmetic product development, deep knowledge of ingredients, and a collaborative, hands-on approach

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Cosmetic Science, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline.
• 6+ years hands-on experience in cosmetic product development with a strong portfolio of successful product launches.
• Comprehensive knowledge of cosmetic ingredients, their properties, functions, and interactions.
• Experience with formulation techniques for emulsions, suspensions, anhydrous systems.
• Proficiency in conducting stability testing and understanding regulatory compliance.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team.
• Must be able to work on-site in Benoni, Gauteng.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development of new cosmetic products, including skincare, makeup, and haircare formulations, from initial concept to final launch.
• Conduct thorough research on ingredients, new technologies, and market trends to identify product innovation opportunities.
• Develop stable, safe, and effective cosmetic formulations based on product briefs and market requirements.
• Perform bench-scale formulation trials and critically evaluate product performance, sensory attributes, and aesthetic qualities.
• Conduct and oversee stability testing, compatibility studies, and micro-biological testing according to industry standards.
• Collaborate closely with the marketing team to understand consumer needs and translate them into viable product concepts.
• Work with the manufacturing and operations teams to ensure smooth scale-up from laboratory to commercial production, troubleshooting any issues.
• Prepare detailed documentation, including formulation reports, manufacturing procedures, and ingredient specifications.
• Ensure all product developments comply with relevant national and international cosmetic regulations.
• Stay updated on the latest advancements in cosmetic science and regulatory affairs.
